Professor Judith Curry, former head of the climatology department at Georgia Institute of Technology, gives the example of claims linking recent wildfires in the US to climate change. These are counterproductive, she says, because they deflect attention from the real causes of the problem, particularly management policies for state- and federal-owned forests. According to Professor Curry, these have been far more vulnerable to fires than privately-owned lands. Similarly, hurricane activity is frequently linked to global warming. However, with little evidence of any worsening trend and with large natural variability, Professor Curry says there are no sound climate-change-based arguments for effective policy responses.
Emeritus Professor Michael J Kelly, of Cambridge University has a warning: "if one concludes that the 2050 Net-Zero Emissions Economy cannot be achieved on scientific, materials, engineering, planning and financial grounds, it would be appropriate to reset the target to one that can be achieved, even at a stretch. With a changing climate, there may come a day when we need to act, just as we needed a Thames Barrier to prevent London flooding. It will be no excuse then that all the money was invested on projects to mitigate climate change, when the very need to adapt will be proof that the mitigation actions have failed."
Professor Bjorn Lomborg writes in "The Australian" newspaper: "Alarming media stories that twist the facts about rising sea levels are dangerous because they scare people unnecessarily and push policymakers towards excessively expensive measures to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. The real solution is to lift the world’s poorest out of poverty and protect them with simple infrastructure."
Robert Lyman writes for Friends of Science Calgary: "There are four ways in which actual global trends are diverging more and more from the predictions upon which climate activists base their claims of impending catastrophe and allegedly 'inevitable decarbonization' of the world economy. After almost thirty years of measurement, the gentle rise in average global temperatures is near the bottom of the range projected by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). If, as many now expect, the world enters a cooling trend over the next few decades, average temperatures will fall entirely outside that range, and demonstrate conclusively that the IPCC models do not provide a reliable foundation for climate policy."
At his blog, The Rational Optimist, Viscount Matt Ridley explains why legislating for "zero carbon" by 2050, is akin to legislating to abolish sin.
This paper, "Climate Thinking - Broadening the Horizons"by Dutch climate scientist Professor Guus Berkhout, is probably the most layperson-friendly, and comprehensive explanation of the origins and the falsity of the 'global warming' hysteria we have even encountered. We are grateful to the UK's Global Warming Policy Foundation for permission to add it to our website.
"World temperatures show no trend when they exclude stations with data contaminated by being in increasingly in built-up areas or close to the sea and without the "corrections: ingtrodiced by IPCC scientists," writes Alan Moran for Australia's Institute of Public Affairs (IPA).
With deepest regret we record the death in Wellington last week of one of the founding fathers of our Coalition, Dr Vincent R. Gray, at age 96. An indefatigable reviewer of every IPCC report so far, Dr Gray published many well-researched critiques of errors and misjudgements he found in IPCC reports, being especially harsh on computer models, with his constant refrain "Correlation is not evidence of causation." In the early years of our Coalition, his expert observations helped many of us to counter false propaganda advanced by the witless Green Party, condoned without correction by the gutless other New Zealand political parties. RIP.
The “Green New Deal” proposed by congressional Democrats is a “recipe for mass suicide” and the “most ridiculous scenario I ever heard,” Greenpeace Co-Founder Patrick Moore warned in an exclusive interview with The New American. In fact, Dr. Moore warned that if the “completely preposterous” prescriptions in the scheme were actually implemented, Americans could be forced to turn to cannibalism to avoid starvation — and they still would not survive.
Comprised of 450 instrumental records from temperature stations sheltered from ocean-air/urbanization/adjustment biases throughout the world, a new 20th/21st century global temperature record introduced previously here very closely aligns with paleoclimate evidence from tree rings, ice cores, fossil pollen and other temperature proxies.
In this post to "WattsUpWithThat?", Canadian climate scientist Dr Tim Ball explains how and why ALL empirical records show that it is rises in Earth's temperature that cause increases in levels of carbon dioxide (CO2); not the other way round as climate alarmists would have you believe.
The Cornwall Alliance posts: "Have mathematical models replaced good old-fashioned scientific testing? An understanding of the big picture in a field of study helps to frame and give essential perspective to that field. Take the field of natural science for instance. A big-picture look at the overall operation of the natural science profession has traditionally been seen in the “scientific method,” which consists of observation, hypothesis and testing. Rigorous testing of a hypothesis eventually leads to a “theory.”... Of late, mathematical modeling, an essential investigative tool, appears to have taken over the world of natural science. And with the ascension of modeling, the focus in scientific endeavors — particularly in the practice of atmospheric science — may have shifted away from the rigour of testing to verify a hypothesis and toward constructing a model to represent a theory."
"The latest well-known person exploited in this way is documentary producer Sir David Attenborough, who was taken in by the false story of anthropogenic global warming (AGW). It appears he let his socialist views over-ride any sense of science he might have. The trouble is he doesn’t appear to have any science training. He is an English Grammar School graduate who identifies himself as a naturalist. This is like the practice of people identifying themselves as environmentalists." Dr Tim Ball posts at 'WattsUpWIthThat'.
This edited transcript on EIIR of an interview with Professor Larry Bell about Rupert Darwall's book, "Green Tyranny" is chock full of facts and figures that rebut alarmist claims about 'climate'change' and "renewable' energy.
US analyst Dr David Wojick post at CFact: "The only climate model that agrees with observations says there is NO climate emergency. Meanwhile half of the IPCC models are getting hotter than ever before, hence getting further from reality than ever before. A modeling showdown is looming and CLINTEL is a leader among the climate critics. They make a strong plea that in the current health emergency any climate action should be put on hold. “Why construct a false climate crisis on top of a true corona crisis?”
Dr Mototaka Nakamura writes: “The global surface mean temperature-change data no longer have any scientific value and are nothing except a propaganda tool to the public.” The climate models are useful tools for academic studies, he admits. However: “The models just become useless pieces of junk or worse (as they can produce gravely misleading output) when they are used for climate forecasting.”
The highly informative website "PLANTS NEED CO2" not only describes how Carbon Dioxide greens the Earth, promotes life and the growth of plants that provide us with nutrition, but it also dispels the many alarmist myths that this vital trace gas causes unnatural "global warming." Use this site to learn the truth about a gas that helps keep us all alive.
Dr Roy Spencer explains about the icy coldness now gripping parts iof Canada and US: "For as long as we have had weather records (extending back into the 1800s), lobes of cold air rotating generally from west to east around the polar vortex sometimes extend down into the U.S. causing wild winter weather and general unpleasantness.....We used to call this process 'weather'. Now it’s called 'climate change'”.
Coupla weeks ago, due to a slip-up- by our administrator, we lost irretrievably some important recent posts that hadn't been backed up. We are re-posting some of them here:
First: A video in which Emeritus Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at MIT, Dr Richard Lindzen, explains why he and so many other scientists is a skeptic. It's a short but convincing piece.
Second: Originally a co-founder of Greenpeace, Dr Patrick Moore explains in this video why he quit the organisation and now opposes current Greenpeace propaganda, especially on climate change
Third: Dr Patrick Moore again in greater detail about why we need more carbon dioxide (CO2) to sustain life on Earth, and why it's important that we continue to extract oil and gas from beneath our oceans
Fourth: Dr Judith Curry rebuts alarmist propaganda about alleged recent rises in sea levels LINK
